DS08 Reykjavik Highlights
The 2008 event culminated in the signing of an agreement between the Icelandic government, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on fleet testing of the electric Mitsubishi i-MiEV in Iceland and the development of service network and infrastructure for such cars. It was exceptionally covered by Icelandic and some major international media including Sky News and The New York Times.
The Main Conclusions In 2008 Were:
- In the years 2010-2012 mass production and consumer market sales of plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles from many major and independent auto manufacturers will start to take off.
- 70-80% of the charging for EV’s is expected to take place at the driver´s home or workplace, following a similar consumer pattern as with mobile phones.
- Battery exchange stations and fast charging stations allowing 75% charge in 15-20 minutes can be set up in a variety of locations to ease consumer acceptance.
- Standardization of electric plugs connecting the cars to the grid is already taking place and should be easily overcome.
